Pakistan Cricket Board Announces Squad for Tri-Series and Asia Cup, Babar and Rizwan Dropped

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday unveiled a 17-member national squad for the upcoming UAE T20 Tri-Series and the Asia Cup 2025.

The tri-series, involving Pakistan, Afghanistan, and hosts UAE, will be held in Sharjah from 29 August to 7 September. The Asia Cup 2025 will take place from 9 to 28 September, with matches scheduled in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

All-rounder Salman Ali Agha has been retained as captain of the squad.


Experienced players such as Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf feature in the lineup, alongside emerging talents like Saim Ayub, Khushdil Shah, and Hussain Talat.

Excellent performance

The squad also includes Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr, and wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris, along with Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, and Hasan Nawaz. Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Mirza, and Sufiyan Muqeem complete the selection.

Speaking at a press conference following the announcement, Pakistan’s white-ball head coach, Mike Hesson, shared insights into the selection choices, particularly the inclusion of pacer Salman Mirza.

“Salman Mirza has been retained due to his strong showing in Bangladesh,” Hesson stated.

The 31-year-old fast bowler stood out with an excellent performance, finishing as the leading wicket-taker in the series. He claimed seven wickets across three matches with an impressive economy rate of 5.21.
