Pakistan Conveys “Anguish” to Afghanistan Over Kabul Attack

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s on Friday summoned the Afghan diplomat to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey its “anguish and deep concern” over the attack on Pakistan’s Head of Mission Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani in Kabul.

Additional Secretary (Afghanistan & West Asia) conveyed Pakistan’s deep concern over the attack in which the Head of Mission remained safe. However, security guard Sepoy Israr Muhammad sustained serious injuries while bravely protecting Pakistan’s Head of Mission.

The Afghan Chargé d’Affaires was conveyed that the protection and security of Pakistan’s personnel and diplomatic missions were the responsibility of the interim government of Afghanistan and that this incident was serious security negligence.

Pakistan Asks Afghanistan Government to Apprehend the Perpetrators

Pakistan asked the Afghan government to immediately apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Pakistan demanded Afghan authorities to launch a probe into the serious security breach at Pakistan’s embassy premises. Necessary measures must be taken to ensure the protection and security of Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in Kabul, along with consulates in Mazar-i-Sharif, Jalalabad, Kandahar, and Herat.

The Afghan Chargé d’Affaires (a.i.) also called the attack “extremely unfortunate”, and said that the common enemies of Pakistan and Afghanistan launched the attack.

Afghan Leadership Strongly Condemned the Attack

He said the Afghan leadership strongly condemned the attack at the highest level.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, in response to a media query, said there were no plans to shut the embassy or withdraw mission staff from Kabul.

“Pakistan is in contact with the Interim Afghan Government and tight security measures have been made to protect Pakistani diplomatic personnel and Missions in Afghanistan,” the spokesperson added.
