ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s government announced on Tuesday that it was convening an in-camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security to discuss the recent surge in terror attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq convened the National Security meeting on Tuesday at 1:30 PM at the National Assembly hall, on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The meeting will take place behind closed doors, allowing for a confidential briefing on the current security landscape, with military leaders set to provide insights into the pressing challenges at hand.

Federal ministers, parliamentary leaders, and their appointed representatives from across the political spectrum will attend the crucial meeting to review the overall law and order situation and plan of action to eliminate the menace of terrorism.

The opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to attend the meeting. Sources said that several key figures, including PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, have announced their participation, with Junaid Akbar suggesting a consultation with the party’s founder.

PTI has submitted a list of 14 representatives to Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for participation in the meeting. The list includes Barrister Gohar, Asad Qaiser, Zartaj Gul, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Aamir Dogar, Sanaullah Mastikhel, Ali Muhammad Khan, Senator Ali Zafar, Senator Humayun Muhammad, and Senator Aun Abbas Bappi.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the significance of this in-camera session, where military leaders will brief the participants on the current security situation of the country.

According to the National Assembly spokesperson, heightened security measures have been implemented throughout the Parliament House and its surroundings to safeguard the proceedings.

This crucial meeting aims to comprehensively address the nation’s security landscape, with law enforcement agencies on high alert to maintain order.

The spokesperson confirmed that the session will be closed to the media, rendering all previously issued media passes null and void for the day.

Access to the Parliament premises will be strictly controlled, with mobile phones prohibited within the National Assembly Hall during the crucial deliberations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security.
