ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s government has established the Governance Innovation Lab at the Ministry of Science & Technology to ensure good governance and transparency in the South Asian country.
Talking to the media, Pakistan’s minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that the main objectives of the Lab are to improve service delivery, enhance transparency, and resolve problems faced by government departments.
Good Governance of Pakistan
The minister said that the lab will act as an agent of change within the public sector. He said that their commitment is not merely based on slogans or deception, but rather to take practical measures to eliminate corruption.
He added, the Governance Lab will assist provide structural solutions and provide innovative solutions to enhance transparency to eliminate the menace of corruption in the South Asian country.
The Minister announced that the Ministry for Planning and Development is going to establish a hotline and an Ombudsman will also be installed to address the complaints received from people of the country and whistle-blowers on instances of corruption in PSDP projects.
Focus on Good Governance
Dr. Adnan Rafiq, a member of the reforms committee at the Planning Commission said that this initiative will create a collaborative community of multi-disciplinary experts to drive public sector reforms.
He added that the Lab will give focus on governance challenges, which include increasing exports, taxation reforms, enhancing the ease of doing business, effective coordination between federal, provincial, and local governments, justice system reforms, and improving the impact of PSDP while reducing leakages.
Experts said that the Governance Innovation Lab is a key initiative toward achieving the goals of vision 2025. Earlier, the minister for Planning Development inaugurated the Governance Innovation Lab at the Ministry of Science & Technology in Pakistan.
