Pakistan Constitutes Committee to Investigate Bishkek Attacks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has formed an inquiry committee to investigate the causes and factors behind the mob attacks on students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad today (Wednesday), alongside Foreign Secretary Syrus Sajjad Qazi, he stated that the committee will also examine the role of the Pakistani Mission in Bishkek regarding the facilitation of students.

The Foreign Minister said that the committee will coordinate with Kyrgyz authorities, review all findings and developments in Bishkek, and submit its report within two weeks.

On Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Kulubaev Zheenbek Moldokanovich to discuss the recent incidents of violence against foreign students, including Pakistanis, in Kyrgyzstan.

The deputy prime minister expressed hope that those responsible for the attacks on Pakistanis in Bishkek would be held accountable.

The Kyrgyz foreign minister outlined the measures taken by Kyrgyz authorities to restore law and order and reaffirmed their strong commitment to arrest, prosecute, and punish the perpetrators of the mob violence.
