ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the repatriation of 268 Pakistani nationals on Monday through two special flights from Basra to Karachi and Islamabad.

The Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said the pilgrims’ repatriation was conducted in close coordination with Iraqi Airways.

The Ministry said it remains actively engaged with Iraqi Airways and all other relevant Iraqi authorities to ensure the safe and timely return of the remaining Pakistani pilgrims in Iraq.

“All Pakistani zaireen (pilgrims) currently in Iraq are advised to remain in close contact with the Pakistan Embassy in Baghdad and their respective airlines for timely updates regarding their travel arrangements,” it added.

The statement said Iraqi Airways is presently operating daily flights on the Basra–Dubai route.

“Today, some Pakistani nationals availed themselves of this option. Those interested in travelling via this route are encouraged to contact the nearest Iraqi Airways office for booking and assistance,” according to the statement.

It added that all pilgrims are further advised to remain prepared for travel at short notice. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to monitor the situation closely and remains fully committed to facilitating the safe and orderly return of all Pakistani pilgrims.

The development follows rising tensions in the region after Israel’s airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites on Friday.

Israel’s strikes have so far killed at least 224 people, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians, according to Iranian authorities.

In retaliation, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said it had “successfully” struck Israel with a salvo of missiles and warned of “effective, targeted and more devastating operations” to come.

The Iranian attacks hit Tel Aviv, Bnei Brak, Petah Tikva and Haifa — with shattered homes, smouldering wreckage and stunned residents picking through debris.

The death toll in Israel rose by 11 on Monday, the prime minister’s office said, bringing the total since Friday to 24.
