ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday strongly condemned the continued threats issued by Yemen’s Houthi militia against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, warning that any hostile act targeting Pakistani-flagged ships or the country’s maritime interests would be regarded as a serious threat to its national security.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said the Houthi threats pose a significant risk to regional stability, undermine freedom of navigation and challenge the rules-based maritime order. It added that such actions also endanger the uninterrupted flow of global trade through one of the world’s busiest shipping corridors.

Pakistan described threats against commercial ships and trade linked to Saudi Arabia as unacceptable and inconsistent with established principles of international law. It expressed particular concern over reports that ships engaged in lawful commercial trade with the Kingdom had been threatened.
The Foreign Office reaffirmed that Pakistan would consider any attack or hostile action against Pakistani-flagged ships or its maritime interests as a grave challenge to the country’s sovereignty and national security.
It said that, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and international law, Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures, including the lawful use of force in self-defence, to safeguard its maritime assets and protect its national interests.

The statement also voiced concern over attempts to draw Saudi Arabia into the wider conflict in the Middle East. Pakistan reiterated its unwavering support for the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and prosperity.
Emphasising its commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions, Pakistan urged all parties to adhere to international law and ensure the safety and security of international maritime navigation.
The statement reflects Islamabad’s continued support for the security of international shipping routes and its longstanding close ties with Saudi Arabia amid growing tensions in the Red Sea region.
