Pakistan, China Vow to Extend Cooperation on Hybrid Rice

BEIJING: Scientists and officials from Pakistan and China discussed means to explore cooperation between Pakistan and China on hybrid rice in the future. An online session of the second International Cooperation and Development Forum on Hybrid Rice was held in Wuhan, China.

The session was organized by the Hubei Association of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, and the University of Punjab.

It may be recalled that Honglian Type Hybrid Rice is the scientific and technological achievement of Wuhan University, China. 

Pak-China Universities Cooperation

The rice is characterized by its excellent quality, insect and disease, multiple resistance, high nitrogen use efficiency, and high-temperature tolerance which can be cultivated in countries of high temperature, insect pests, frequent plant diseases, and grain production along the Belt and Road countries like Pakistan.

Zhu Renshan, Director of Wuhan University said that Honglian Type Hybrid Rice was introduced in Pakistan in 2018 and has achieved promising harvests in various demonstrative plots in Gujranwala, Lahore, Vehari, Shikar Pur, and Larkana in Sindh. – APP
