Pakistan, China to Strengthen Ties in Agriculture, IT, and Minerals

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China on Friday agreed to enhance collaboration in key sectors including agriculture, information technology, and mining and minerals.

This came during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Ambassador Jiang Zaidong at the Prime Minister House, the PM House’s media wing said in a statement.

The two sides underscored the enduring strength of bilateral ties marked by mutual trust, ironclad friendship and unwavering support on core national interests. The prime minister conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and the people of China, particularly on the occasion of the Chinese New Year.

He expressed deep appreciation for China’s consistent support to Pakistan across economic, security and development sectors, highlighting the transformative role of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Describing CPEC as a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, the prime minister termed it a cornerstone of Pakistan-China cooperation.

While stressing the importance of expediting ongoing CPEC projects, the prime minister called for enhanced collaboration in key sectors including agriculture, information technology, and mining and minerals. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring a safe and conducive environment for Chinese personnel, investments and institutions operating in the country.

Ambassador Jiang briefed the prime minister on recent developments in bilateral relations and conveyed warm greetings from the Chinese leadership. He reiterated China’s firm support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and socio-economic development.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, agreeing to maintain close coordination to promote peace, stability and shared prosperity in the region and beyond.
