Pakistan, China Sign Five Deals for Enhanced Disaster Prevention Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have signed five agreements to enhance collaboration in disaster prevention through the China-Pakistan Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Smart Disaster Prevention for Major Infrastructures.

The agreements were formalized between Southeast University of China and five Pakistani institutions that include Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi, University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore, and University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, reported by China Economic Net.

This cooperation aims to advance research in areas such as earthquake engineering, structural health monitoring, and disaster risk reduction technologies. It is expected to facilitate the establishment of new research and development facilities in Pakistan, laying the groundwork for future projects.

Both parties emphasized the need for policy support from their governments and disaster management authorities to ensure the success of these joint initiatives. The agreements also include plans for talent exchange programs and collaborative efforts to develop international standards in disaster prevention technologies.
