ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China militaries began their first joint counterterrorism exercise “Warrior-VIII” in five years, the military media wing said on Wednesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the opening ceremony of the Pak-China Joint Exercise “Warrior-VIII” between the Pakistan Army and the People’s Liberation Army of China was held at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), located in the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Pabbi area.

The Pakistan-hosted Warrior-VIII exercise will run until mid-December, with the aim of enhancing the capability to conduct joint counterterrorism operations.

According to the ISPR, the three-week-long exercise in the counterterrorism domain is the eighth in a series of bilateral exercises conducted annually.

The exercise aims to refine professional skills through joint training and strengthen the historic military-to-military relations between the “Iron-Clad Brothers.”

Lieutenant General Shahid Imtiaz, Commander of the Rawalpindi Corps, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, according to the ISPR.

An Anadolu Agency report yesterday quoted the Chinese Defence Ministry as saying that the two militaries will engage in multi-level training across various specialities and conduct live troop drills simulating real combat scenarios.

The event is part of a broader effort to enhance practical military cooperation and improve the capability to tackle terrorism, according to the ministry.

The most recent joint exercise in this series took place in 2019.
