KEY POINTS

  • Registration process shifted to Islamabad Police’s ‘Taxi Verification System’ (TVS) app.
  • Drivers must display QR code on vehicles for instant passenger verification.
  • Citizens urged to avoid unregistered taxis and scan QR code before traveling.
  • Complete trip data mandatory for drivers to ensure accountability and safety.

ISLAMABAD: The district administration and Islamabad Police have launched a joint initiative to digitise the registration process for bike taxis and taxis operating in the federal capital, aiming to create a safer travel environment for citizens.

The decision marks a significant shift in how ride-hailing services will be monitored and regulated, with authorities moving to a centralised application system for driver and vehicle verification.

Registration process moves to Police Verification App

In a key development, the registration process has been transitioned from the district administration’s application to the Islamabad Police’s “Taxi Verification System” (TVS). The move is designed to streamline verification procedures and ensure more robust background checks.

Drivers can now easily download the TVS application from the Google Play Store. The app allows both drivers and vehicles to upload their data seamlessly for verification purposes.

QR Code System becomes mandatory for all registered vehicles

Following successful registration, all drivers have been directed to display a QR code screen prominently on their vehicles. This measure enables citizens to verify a driver’s credentials instantly by simply scanning the code before commencing their journey.

The system will provide passengers with immediate access to driver verification status, ensuring they are traveling with a police-approved individual.

Enhanced safety protocols for every trip

Authorities have also mandated that drivers provide complete information for each ride and journey. This requirement is expected to create a digital trail of all trips, further enhancing passenger security and accountability.

DC Islamabad urges citizens to prioritise safety

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Memon, emphasised that the initiative would make travel in the capital “completely safe and secure” for citizens. He urged residents to exercise caution and avoid traveling on unregistered bike taxis or taxis.

“I appeal to all citizens to never travel on an unregistered bike taxi or taxi,” Memon stated. “By ensuring your driver is registered and verified through this system, you are taking the most important step to protect yourself.”

How citizens can verify drivers

Passengers using the system can:

  • Scan the QR code displayed on the vehicle
  • Instantly confirm the driver’s police verification status
  • Report any discrepancies to authorities immediately

The initiative represents a significant step toward leveraging technology for public safety, bringing Islamabad’s ride-hailing sector under a more structured and transparent regulatory framework.
