Colombo: Pakistan has called up reserve players after two main bowlers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah got injured during a match with India in the Asia Cup on Monday.

Pakistan lost to India

The two players did not come for bating in the match that Pakistan lost to India. Pakistan faced a 228-run defeat in the rain-hit Super Four match in Colombo and named Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan as backups.

The Pakistan Cricket Board late Monday announced that Rauf and Naseem “picked up niggles”.

India bowled out Pakistan for 128 (128-8), chasing 357.  Rauf had a strain and did not take the field when play resumed on day two after being delayed due to rain. Later in the match, Naseem also left the field.

The PCB said in a statement the reserve players have been called as a precautionary measure, keeping in view the fitness and comfort of the players before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next month.

It further added that Haris and Naseem will remain under the observation of the team’s medical panel.

It said that the team management would only request a replacement from the ACC (Asian Cricket Council) technical committee if Naseem or Haris could not join the team for the next seven days. Pakistan will play their next game against Sri Lanka on Thursday.
