UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has called upon the the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to hold India answerable for gross human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Ambassador Aamir Khan, acting permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN, while speaking to General Assembly’s Third Committee said failure to do so will further erode the credibility of OHCHR’s mandate.
No end to gross human rights violations by India in Kashmir
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, in his remarks said that it seems there is no end to gross and systematic human rights violations by India as 900,000 strong occupation force are involved in Indian occupied Kashmir since August 2019.
Ambassador Aamir Khan also highlighted the Human Rights 75 Initiative of the OHCHR, which talks about progress, universality, and engagement under UN Human Rights, while underlining that the UN body should end double standards in work of the UN.

The Pakistani UN envoy further said that the prevalence of Islamophobia such as repeated incidents of Qur’an burning was a matter of concern.
He added Islamophobia leads to religious discrimination, hostility, hatred and violence. Aamir Khan went on to say that persecution of Muslims in some western countries and imminent genocide of Muslims in India must come to an end.
Turk in his report spoke about the raging conflict in the Middle East where human rights are continuing to be violated and called for vital steps to end tensions.
