Pakistan Calls for Sustained Engagement With Afghan Govt

Islamabad: Pakistan has reiterated the importance of sustained engagement of the international community with the interim Afghan government to ensure the continued well-being and prosperity of the Afghan people.  

This came during a meeting of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar with the Iranian President’s Special Representative on Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Ghomi in Islamabad on Thursday.

She said the international community’s engagement is important due to the multiple and complex challenges confronting Afghanistan.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s abiding commitment to a peaceful and stable Afghanistan, the Minister of State underscored that deep-rooted fraternal ties underpin the strong bonds of solidarity between the two countries. She said as friends and neighbors of Afghanistan, both Pakistan and Iran have a critical role in this end.

Earlier, the Iranian Special Representative also met Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq, and agreed to further strengthen cooperation towards advancing the mutually reinforcing goals of regional peace and development.
