UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has emphasized the critical importance of combatting the widespread dissemination of disinformation and fake news to protect human rights and ensure equitable access to digital resources.

Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, addressed the concluding ‘Interactive Dialogue on the Code of Conduct for Information Integrity on Digital Platforms’. He highlighted recent cases of disinformation tactics utilized by the Israeli military occupation, including the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Emphasizing the critical need for preserving information integrity, especially within digital realms, Ambassador Jadoon urged concerted efforts toward this goal.

He condemned censorship, internet shutdowns, and the spread of fake news by occupying forces, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the rights of people under foreign occupation and supporting legitimate freedom movements.

Additionally, he expressed concerns about the marginalization of minority groups through the weaponization of digital platforms, highlighting violations of human rights conventions.

He called for global principles rejecting digital imperialism and advocating for human rights, dignity, and equality. Moreover, Ambassador Jadoon emphasized the digital gap in developing nations like Pakistan, emphasizing the necessity of investing in infrastructure and capacity-building programs to enhance digital literacy and accessibility.
