Pakistan Brings over 2.588 Million Hectares under Cotton Cultivation

ISLAMABAD: The cotton sowing has been completed over 2.588 million hectares in the country as against the set targets of 2.767 million hectares for 2023-24 season to fulfill the industrial and commercial needs of local industry as well as for exporting.

Ministry of National Food Security and Research’s Cotton Commissioner Dr Zahid said that by the first week of the current month, the farming community in crop-producing areas completed cultivation over 93.53% of the total area fixed for the season to achieve the production of 12.77 million bales.

He said that sowing cotton in Punjab has been completed over 95.11% area over 1.920 million hectares against the given target of 2.019 million hectares for the output of nearly 8.336 million bales during the current season.

Cotton cultivation in Sindh

Dr Zahid said that Sindh has achieved over 84.49% of its set targets and completed crop sowing over 0.5678 million hectares against the set target of 0.672 million hectares while the cotton production targets for the province is set at 4.00 million bales.

He said that during the season, the cotton sowing witnessed upward momentum in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan as both the provinces achieved their cultivation target by 113% and 132.24% respectively.
