ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked 16 Indian YouTube channels, 31 YouTube video links, and 32 websites for “disseminating false information and anti-Pakistan propaganda”.
This action has been taken in light of the prevailing regional situation to safeguard national security and protect Pakistan’s digital ecosystem, PTA stated in a press release.
The blocked content was found to be spreading misleading and harmful narratives aimed at manipulating public perception and undermining national unity, PTA stated.
“This move is part of PTA’s continued efforts to combat disinformation and ensure the responsible use of digital platforms,” the authority stated.
The statement concluded by saying that the PTA would continue to actively monitor online content and take firm action against any material that threatens the country’s national interests.
The PTA action comes after India launched missile, air and drone strikes on five locations inside Pakistan during the night of May 6–7.
The unprovoked attacks targeted locations in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Sialkot, Shakargarh, Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.
The strikes resulted in the deaths of civilians, including women and children, and damage to civilian infrastructure such as mosques and a hydropower facility.
