ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has begun evacuating the families of its diplomats and staff, along with some non-essential personnel, from Iran amid escalating regional tensions.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs senior official cited by Radio Pakistan, despite the move, the Pakistan Embassy in Tehran and Consulates will continue to remain functional.

Meanwhile, the government has begun efforts to repatriate Pakistani nationals, including students, from Iran.

According to immigration officials on Monday, nearly 714 individuals have arrived in Pakistan via buses through the Taftan border crossing.

The returnees include citizens, traders, and drivers. Authorities noted that special security measures have been implemented in light of the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.

Officials reported that three buses carrying 154 Pakistani students arrived at Taftan from Tehran. After completing immigration procedures, the students will be transferred to Pakistan House.

Israeli strikes on Iran have killed at least 224 people, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians, Iran said Sunday. It has not issued an updated toll since then.

At least 24 people have been killed in Israel and hundreds wounded, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.

Israeli forces claimed to have killed Iran’s newly appointed Chief of Staff General Ali Shadmani in an airstrike on a command centre in central Tehran, four days after he assumed the role following the death of his predecessor in an Israeli strike.

According to media reports, Israeli Air Force jets struck an active command centre in central Tehran, resulting in the death of General Shadmani.

Iran has neither confirmed nor denied the Israeli military’s claim.
