ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Bangladesh have stressed to reinforce regional security mechanisms besides strengthening bilateral maritime collaboration, a military statement said on Tuesday.

According to Pakistan military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), a Bangladesh Navy delegation, led by Commander Chattogram (COMCHIT), Rear Admiral Md Moinul Hassan, called on Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, at the Naval Headquarters.

The meeting featured discussions on key areas of mutual professional interest, including ways to further strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation and enhance regional security mechanisms.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding operational engagements, improving information sharing, and exploring new avenues of strategic collaboration between the two navies, ISPR said.

The visit of the Bangladesh Navy delegation highlights the enduring relationship between the two forces and reflects their shared commitment to deepening professional ties, enhancing operational synergy, and jointly promoting regional maritime peace and stability.

It may be recalled that earlier this month, Pakistan Navy Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf paid an official visit to Bangladesh, where he met with senior military leadership to enhance defence cooperation.  The visit coincided with the Pakistan Navy Ship ‘Saif’ docked at Bangladesh’s Chattogram port.

Ties have improved since the fall of Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration, which was seen as closely aligned with India and critical of Pakistan. This shift occurred following the student-led uprising in August 2024.

Pakistan has sought to strengthen its relations with Bangladesh in recent months, particularly as tensions remain between Dhaka and New Delhi, following India’s decision to offer asylum to Hasina after she fled Bangladesh.
