NEW YORK: Pakistan and Bangladesh have decided to closely work at bilateral, regional, and multifaceted levels for the progress and development of the people of both nations.
The agreement came during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Advisor of Interim Government of Bangladesh, Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The Prime Minister speaking on the occasion highlighted the country’s strong fraternal ties with Bangladesh, based on common faith, culture and history.
He also stressed that both sides need to work together to further strengthen the bilateral ties.
Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan and Bangladesh should encourage bilateral relations through parliamentary exchanges, people-to-people contacts, and interactions among sportspersons, artists, academics, and students.
The Prime Minister also extended an invitation to the Chief Executive to pay an official visit to Pakistan at his convenience, reinforcing the significance of regional cooperation and dialogue.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also attended the ceremony with regard to the completion of 50 years of Bangladesh’s membership in the United Nations in New York, coinciding with the ongoing 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
Chief Advisor of Interim Government of Bangladesh, Professor Muhammad Yunus welcomed Prime Minister Sharif and his accompanying delegation, which included Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Federal Education and Professional Training Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
During the meeting, both leaders held constructive talks focused on expanding bilateral relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The two leaders agreed to promote cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh in various fields.
