LONDON: Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to enhance maritime cooperation to promote regional stability, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
The understanding was reached during a meeting in London between Pakistan’s Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hussain, Advisor for Shipping of Bangladesh, Radio Pakistan reported on Monday.
During the meeting, Minister Chaudhry proposed the establishment of a formal cooperation framework between the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation and the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, aiming to deepen collaboration in the maritime sector and strengthen bilateral ties.

He sought Bangladesh’s support for Pakistan in the upcoming International Maritime Organisation Category C elections, while reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to reciprocate.
Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry also reiterated Pakistan’s earlier offer to make Karachi Port Trust facilities available for Bangladeshi cargo. He emphasised that closer port-to-port collaboration could ease logistical challenges, reduce regional bottlenecks, and create new opportunities for commercial integration across South Asia.
