MANAMA, Bahrain: Pakistan and Bahrain have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of security, counter-terrorism, human trafficking, and narcotics control, during a high-level meeting held in Manama.

Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with his Bahraini counterpart, General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, during a one-day official visit to the Gulf state, according to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

Both sides emphasised the need to “further strengthen their security collaboration”, state-run Radio Pakistan reported on Saturday.

Minister Naqvi was warmly received at Bahrain International Airport and accorded a guard of honour upon his arrival at the Ministry of Interior headquarters, BNA reported.

The meeting was attended by Bahrain’s Deputy Interior Minister Major General Adel bin Khalifa Al-Fadhel, Chief of Public Security, senior Bahraini officials, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Bahrain, Saqib Rauf.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing collaboration in security-related fields, with a particular emphasis on combating terrorism, cross-border human smuggling, and drug trafficking.

Both sides also agreed to revitalise the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Security Committee to further institutionalise cooperation.

The Bahraini Interior Minister lauded Pakistan’s support and underlined the importance of continued collaboration, according to Radio Pakistan.

“We value the security cooperation with Pakistan,” Sheikh Rashid said, adding that Minister Naqvi’s visit would serve to deepen the strategic relationship between the two nations.

Interior Minister Naqvi highlighted the urgency of reinforcing joint efforts to tackle transnational threats.

“Enhancing cooperation in counter-narcotics and anti-human trafficking is the need of the hour,” he said, expressing Pakistan’s readiness to work closely with Bahraini institutions on shared security priorities.

Naqvi also extended an invitation to General Sheikh Rashid to visit Pakistan for further discussions and to build on the momentum of bilateral engagement.

Pakistan and Bahrain enjoy close fraternal ties rooted in shared cultural and religious values, with longstanding cooperation in the areas of security and defence.

In recent months, the leadership of both countries has expressed a strong desire to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, and information technology.

Earlier this year, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq held meetings with Bahraini delegations to explore economic and parliamentary partnerships.

Pakistan’s military leadership, including Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, have also engaged with Bahrain’s top civil and defence authorities to bolster strategic ties.
