Pakistan, Azerbaijan Sign MoU to Strengthen Legal, Judicial Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Azerbaijan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the legal and judicial sectors.

The agreement was signed during an official visit by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, to Baku, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The MoU was signed between the Ministry of Law and Justice of Pakistan and the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan, establishing a framework for collaboration in areas such as legal reform, institutional exchange, and the rule of law.

During his visit, the Law Minister held high-level meetings with senior Azerbaijani officials.

In a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister, Ali Asadov, both sides acknowledged the growing importance of legal diplomacy in fostering stronger bilateral ties, according to the press release.

They also expressed the desire to deepen collaboration across multiple areas of governance through legal and judicial engagement.

Law Minister Tarar also met with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Justice, Farid Ahmadov. Their discussions focused on legal modernisation, institutional capacity-building, and the sharing of expertise between the two countries.

Both sides underscored the importance of structured exchanges to support legal system development and the promotion of best practices.

In a separate engagement, the Law Minister called on the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, Inam Karimov.

The meeting focused on judicial reforms, the digital transformation of court services, and the strengthening of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

According to the Law Ministry’s press release, both parties expressed commitment to adopting innovative practices to improve access to justice and court efficiency.

The signed MoU outlines cooperation in several key areas, including alternative dispute resolution, digitalisation of legal services, judicial training, and the exchange of legal knowledge and best practices.

The two countries agreed to promote institutional collaboration aimed at supporting justice sector reforms and enhancing the quality of legal services.
