LACHIN, Azerbaijan: Pakistan and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their resolve to diversify the strategic partnership through investment in mutually beneficial sectors.
The commitment was made in a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Lachin on Tuesday, Radio Pakistan reported.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the entire range of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the growing cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan in the political, economic, defense, and cultural spheres.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that both nations have consistently supported each other in times of need and will continue to strengthen this bond.
He also extended his gratitude to Azerbaijan for its unwavering support during the recent Pakistan-India tensions, acknowledging the strong expressions of solidarity from both the Azerbaijani leadership and its people.
He added that the people of Azerbaijan celebrated the success of Pakistan in Maarka-e-Haq against India.
Azerbaijan side agreed to exchange delegations with regard to progress in investment of Azerbaijan in Pakistan. In this regard, delegation-level talks will be organized very soon.
The meeting took place on the eve of the Trilateral meeting of Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Turkiye that would take place on Azerbaijan’s Independence Day, adding a symbolic dimension to the exchange between the two leaders.
The Prime Minister conveyed warm felicitations to President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on this important national occasion.
The two leaders stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to promote regional stability, mutual prosperity, and principled positions on key international issues.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the Pakistan-Azerbaijan partnership and collaborating closely to further advance their shared goals at both the bilateral and regional levels.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Chief of the Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Ullah Tarrar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi were also present.
Earlier in the day, the premier wrapped up his two-day bilateral visit to Iran and arrived in Azerbaijan, on the third leg of this four-nation visit.
The prime minister is visiting Azerbaijan at the invitation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Following visits to Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan, he will later proceed to Tajikistan.
