ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Defence and Defence Production, Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Thursday that Pakistan attached great importance to its ties with Iraq and wished to expand cooperation in all fields of mutual interests, especially defence.
He expressed these remarks during a meeting with the Iraqi Ambassador to Pakistan Hamid Abbas Lafta, who called on him here in Islamabad.
Khwaja Asif said that both countries should work closely to share their experiences and build the capacities of their Armed Forces.
Training Facilities in Pakistan
He said that Pakistan strongly supported the sovereignty, political unity and territorial integrity of Iraq. Pakistan has developed the best training facilities and infrastructure for its armed forces. Numerous foreign nations were availing these facilities, particularly the training related to counter-terrorism, Asif added.
He encouraged the ambassador to avail of more training facilities in Pakistan.
The envoy conveyed and reaffirmed the commitment of the people and the government of Iraq to work closely with Pakistan and further strengthen their bilateral ties, particularly in the field of defence.
