Pakistan Army Pays Rich Tribute to Major Shabbir Sharif on 52nd Martyrdom Anniversary: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army on Wednesday paid glowing tribute to Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, recipient of Nishan-e-Haider on his 52nd martyrdom anniversary, the military’s media wing said in a statement.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations, “Armed Forces of Pakistan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Services Chiefs pay glowing tribute to Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, recipient of Nishan-e-Haider on his 52nd martyrdom anniversary”.

The statement maintained, “During the 1971 war, Major Shabbir Sharif was ordered to capture high ground near the Sulemanki Headworks. The position was defended by Indian infantry, supported by a squadron of tanks. Major Shabbir Sharif captured the area by killing 43 Indian soldiers and destroyed four tanks,”. Major Shabbir Sharif and his men also repulsed counter-attacks of two enemy battalions, the ISPR said.

The ISPR added “The heroic actions of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed in 1965 and 1971 wars remind us that it was not numbers but faith, courage and devotion in adversity which make nations triumph. Let us remember these heroes who have laid down their lives in defense of motherland”.  “The nation is proud of its brave sons,” the ISPR further said.
