PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Army has successfully installed three hydropower turbines in the hilly areas of northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In collaboration with Frontier Corps North and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the installations in the Elum Valley of Buner district represent a significant milestone in addressing the longstanding electricity needs of neglected areas.
These installations aim to provide a consistent power supply to 1,500 households in an area that has been without electricity for the past seventy years.
Among these installations, a 150-kilowatt hydroelectric turbine now lights up 500 homes in Ellum Kalay and Karapa Kalay. Another 200-kilowatt turbine is supplying electricity to 500 homes in Jobra Kalay and Sheen Dhand, while a 250-kilowatt turbine in Elum serves 500 homes in Char Kalay.
Pakistan Army, FC Overcome Obstacles to Achieve Successful Outcomes
Despite the challenging and remote terrain, the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps North have overcome obstacles to achieve successful outcomes, including the installation of turbines, transformers, and transmission line poles. Their efforts included laying transmission lines in streams and utilizing winching techniques to transfer heavy pipes.
The local population has expressed gratitude for these initiatives, which have brought much-needed electricity to their communities.
