DOHA: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday apprised the Prime Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, about Pakistan’s firm and principled stance regarding recent tensions with India, emphasising Islamabad’s commitment to regional peace and stability.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around enhancing bilateral ties and fostering closer cooperation between Pakistan and Qatar.

Regional issues, including Pakistan-India tensions, were also discussed during the meeting.

The tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours escalated after gunmen attacked tourists in the Pahalgam area of occupied Kashmir on 22 April, killing 26 people and injuring 17.

India swiftly blamed Pakistan for the attack without presenting any credible evidence. Pakistan condemned the attack and strongly rejected the Indian government’s baseless accusations.

According to a statement by the Interior Ministry, Mohsin Naqvi apprised the Prime Minister of Qatar about Pakistan’s firm and principled stance regarding recent tensions with India.

He also informed him about Pakistan’s comprehensive efforts to ensure peace in the region.

He stated that India’s baseless accusations and actions in the wake of the Pahalgam incident pose serious threats to regional peace.

He added that the offer of an impartial investigation of the Pahalgam incident further validates Pakistan’s principled position.

He stated that the world needs to know who the true masterminds and beneficiaries of the incident.

He said that India, under the cover of this incident, has targeted the Indus Waters Treaty, which is vital for Pakistan’s survival.

Mohsin Naqvi stated that while Pakistan seeks lasting peace in the region, it will not remain silent in the face of aggression.

The Prime Minister of Qatar stressed the significance of diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Pakistan and India.

He reiterated Qatar’s support for a policy of regional non-confrontation and expressed hope that diplomatic initiatives would help lower the tensions.

He also sent best wishes for Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, praising his efforts in guiding Pakistan’s economy in the right direction.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar, Muhammad Aamir, and senior officials were also present on the occasion.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Qatar on Monday on the second phase of his official trip to the Gulf region. He also held a meeting with his Qatari counterpart, Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
