ISLAMABAD: Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has tendered his resignation after misconduct allegations, local media reported on Wednesday.
“It was an honour to be appointed and to work as a Judge first of the Lahore High Court (LHC), and then as the Supreme Court of Pakistan. In the circumstances which are a matter of public knowledge and to some extent public record, it is no longer possible for me to continue to work as a Judge of the SC. Considerations of due process also compel so,” Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi said in a resignation letter sent to President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi. The letter maintained, “I, therefore effective today quit as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the SC declined to stop the proceedings being conducted by the Supreme Judicial Council against the Supreme Court judge with the ruling that without hearing the case on merits, stay cannot be granted.
A three-member bench of the SC, headed by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan and comprising Justice Musrat Hilali, and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail heard the petition of Justice Mazahar, challenging the SJC proceedings as well as the show cause notice issued to him on the charge of misconduct.
