ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday announced that the government has approved visa-free entry for businessmen from Gulf countries to promote foreign investment, business activities, and tourism in the country.

The new policy aims to enhance Pakistan’s appeal as a destination for investors and tourists alike.

In a statement issued from the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz Sharif outlined the details of the new visa policy. The prime minister said that businessmen, investors, and tourists from 126 countries will now be able to receive online visas within 24 hours. Additionally, these individuals will be exempt from visa fees, significantly simplifying the entry process.

“This initiative is designed to make Pakistan an attractive and competitive destination for foreign investment and tourism,” said PM Sharif. “By easing the visa requirements, we are opening doors to a broader range of opportunities for economic growth and cultural exchange.”

The visa-free entry policy is expected to boost various sectors, including tourism, by facilitating easier access to Pakistan’s diverse attractions. PM Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s northern areas, including Gilgit-Baltistan, as particularly appealing for tourists due to their natural beauty and cultural heritage.

To further support the new policy, the government has introduced an E-system of electronic gates at major airports in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore. This system is intended to streamline the entry process and enhance security.

In addition to the general visa policy changes, a new sub-category under the visa-on-arrival facility has been approved specifically for Sikh pilgrims holding passports from third countries. This measure aims to encourage religious tourism by making it easier for Sikh devotees to visit sacred sites in Pakistan.

To ensure effective implementation and oversight of the new visa regime, an operational dashboard will be established at the Ministry of Interior. This dashboard will track visa-free entries, business visa applications, and tourist visas on arrival. It will also provide regular reports to monitor the policy’s impact and address any issues that arise.

Prime Minister Sharif commended the Ministry of Interior and other relevant divisions for their efforts in rolling out the new visa regime. He expressed confidence that the policy will contribute to economic stability and an increase in foreign exchange reserves by attracting more international visitors and investors.
