ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Council (PWCC) on Monday announced a strong 15-member team for the T20 Wheelchair Cricket Asia Cup 2023 second edition, taking place from 2 to 8 October at the neutral venue of Kathmandu, Nepal.
Seasoned player Muhammad Zeeshan, who led Pakistan to victory in the first edition in 2019 in Nepal, has again been handed over the reins of team’s stewardship.
President PWCC Rookhsana Rajpoot said that the tournament, being hosted by Pakistan was earlier scheduled to be played in July but was pushed to October due to the rainy season in Kathmandu.
She said that they tried to hold the event in Pakistan but due to some travelling problems of the Indian team, it was decided to move it to Nepal.
She added that recently, they had visited Nepal to oversee the arrangements for the event and they are sure that fans would have some exciting contests during the tournament.
Asia Cup Teams
Teams from Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka will participate in the Asia Cup.
Rookhsana said geographically Nepal was the best destination for all the playing teams to arrive.
She said the PWCC would be responsible for covering the tournament cost, while Nepal’s National Disability Sports for All Organization and Physically Challenged Cricket Association of Nepal would provide logistic support.
All matches will be held at Kathmandu’s Tu International Cricket Ground. Every day, there will be two fixtures. The opening contest will be held between Nepal and Bangladesh on 4 October, while in the second on the same day India will face Sri Lanka. Pakistan will start their campaign against Nepal on 5 October, whereas in the second match of the day Sri Lanka will face Nepal.
In their second match, Pakistan will meet traditional rivals India on 6 October, while in the other fixture of the day Sri Lanka will clash with Nepal.
On 7October, Bangladesh will meet India in the first fixture of the day, while in the second clash Pakistan will lock horns with Sri Lanka.
Similarly, on 8 October, Nepal will compete against India in the first fixture, whereas the second match of the day will be held between Bangladesh and Pakistan. The top two teams on the points table will qualify for the final, scheduled to be held on 9 October.
