ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) has announced the programme for two major Sikh religious events to be held in June 2025, despite ongoing tensions with India.
The move demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to religious tourism and interfaith outreach, even though the cross-border movement between the two south-Asian neighbours has been suspended.
According to the official schedule, the death anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev Ji (Jor Mela) will be observed on June 16 at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore, while the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh will be observed on June 29 at his samadhi, also in Lahore.
Sikh pilgrims from around the world, including India, have been invited to attend these events.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has reiterated its readiness to facilitate cross-border pilgrimage. The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) has completed all necessary preparations, including arrangements for security, accommodation, and transportation at key religious sites.
If India allows Sikh pilgrims to travel to Pakistan, the first group of pilgrims is expected to arrive on foot via the Wagah Border on Monday, June 9.
The group will start their pilgrimage at Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and visit local gurdwaras during a two-day stay.
The pilgrims will then visit Gurdwara Sacha Sauda in Farooqabad, followed by a stop in Hassan Abdal in Punjab on June 11.
On June 12, the pilgrims will stay at Gurdwara Panja Sahib, with plans to visit the nearby shrine of the Muslim saint Baba Wali Qandhari.
On June 13, the group will travel to Narowal to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, where they will stay until June 14.
From there, they will proceed to Lahore on June 15, making a stop at Gurdwara Rori Sahib in Eminabad along the way.
The main religious ceremony commemorating the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji—including the Bhog Akhand Path Sahib—will take place on June 16 at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore.
The pilgrims will stay in Lahore on June 17 and are scheduled to return to India via the Wagah border on June 18.
A second group of Indian pilgrims is expected to arrive in Pakistan on Sunday, June 22, to participate in the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Their visit will begin in Nankana Sahib on June 23, followed by travel to Hassan Abdal via Farooqabad on June 24.
The group will stay at Gurdwara Panja Sahib on June 25, then proceed to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur for a two-day visit on June 26 and 27.
On June 28, they will travel to Lahore. The main ceremony marking Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary, including the Bhog Akhand Path Sahib, will be held on June 29 at his samadhi in Lahore.
Pilgrims will remain in the city on June 30 and are scheduled to return to India on July 1, 2025.
According to the ETPB officials, all arrangements have been made to ensure a secure, comfortable, and spiritually fulfilling experience for Sikh pilgrims.
