ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal government has officially announced four public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday.

All government offices and institutions will remain closed from Friday, 6 June to Monday, 9 June 2025, both for offices observing five and six days’ working week, the notification stated.

The notification was issued in continuation of the Cabinet Division’s circular dated 23 December 2024 and applies across the country.

The first day of Eid-ul-Adha will fall on Saturday, 7 June, as confirmed by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The festival will be observed nationwide from 7 to 9 June.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.

The festival is marked by the ritual slaughter of animals, with the meat traditionally distributed among family, friends, and the underprivileged.

Preparations for Eid are already underway, with temporary cattle markets set up in cities and towns across Pakistan to facilitate the purchase of sacrificial animals.

The faithful will offer sacrifices over the three days of Eid, in keeping with Islamic tradition.

During this period, government offices, banks, and most private institutions will remain closed.

Transport hubs are expected to see a significant increase in passenger traffic as people travel to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with family.
