Pakistan and Uzbekistan Sign Multiple Accords for Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have signed several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements to further bolster cooperation between the two nations in diverse sectors.

According to Radio Pakistan, the MoUs and agreements included, MoU between Tashkent and Lahore, cooperation agreement between news agencies, inter-agency agreement on Youth Affairs, agreement on cooperation in the field of science technology and innovation.

The two nations also signed agreements in the fields of visa-free travel of diplomatic passport holders, military intelligence, internal affairs, professional and technical training and training of diplomats, Radio Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev were also present in the documents exchange ceremony.

High-Level Strategic Council

The two leaders also signed joint declaration after the official visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister to Uzbekistan and the protocol of establishment of Pakistan-Uzbekistan High-Level Strategic Council.

APP reported that Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday was accorded a guard of honour as he arrived at the Tashkent Congress Centre to meet President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and hold the delegation-level talks.

As the prime minister arrived at the venue of the formal welcome reception, the Uzbek president warmly received him.

The national anthems of Pakistan and Uzbekistan were played, which followed the guard of honour by the smartly-turned out contingents of the Uzbek armed forces which the prime minister reviewed along with President Mirziyoyev.

Later, both President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif introduced their respective delegations to each other before proceeding to the bilateral meeting and the delegation-level talks.

Economic development

The prime minister who arrived here Tuesday on a two-day official visit, is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Investment and Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi.

Earlier, Pakistan’s foreign minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday held a “productive” meeting with foreign minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov wherein they discussed means to further strengthen bilateral ties.

Both sides discussed deepening cooperation in trade, investment, regional connectivity, and economic development.

Both ministers appreciated the longstanding fraternal ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, built on shared history and mutual respect.
