Pakistan and Portugal to Expand Cooperation in Various Sectors

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Portugal have agreed to expand cooperation in diverse sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture, water management, ICT, blue economy, and green technologies.

The agreement was reached during the third round of bilateral political consultations between the two nations in Lisbon.

The Pakistani delegation was headed by Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe), Ambassador Muhammad Saleem, while the Portuguese side was led by Director General for Foreign Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rui Vinhas.

The agenda included discussions on a broad range of bilateral, global, and regional issues of common interest, including regional security, climate change issue, and cooperation at multilateral fora.

Bilateral relations between Pakistan and Portugal

Both countries expressed satisfaction at the current state of bilateral relations and agreed to enhance bilateral trade and investment, collaboration in agriculture, water management, Information and Communication Technology, blue economy, green technologies, and employment opportunities for the Pakistani workforce.

It was decided to hold regular sessions of political consultations, with the next meeting to be held in Islamabad. The Portuguese delegation would visit Pakistan on mutually agreed dates.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release on Saturday, “Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Portugal and is committed to further strengthening the existing relations between the two countries.”

The spokesperson also highlighted that Pakistan was keen to learn from Portugal’s expertise in various fields and explore new avenues of cooperation.

This agreement marks a positive step towards enhancing bilateral ties between Pakistan and Portugal and opens up opportunities for further collaboration and investment in various sectors.
