Pakistan Ambassador Presents Credentials to Chinese President Xi Jinping

BEIJING: Pakistan envoy Khalil Hashmi on Tuesday presented his letter of credence as ambassador to China to the President Xi Jinping in ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The credential presentation event included several foreign envoys from different countries. Following the ceremony, Ambassador Hashmi had a brief interaction with President Xi, who congratulated the envoys on their new roles.

President Xi emphasized China’s foreign policy priorities, including the enhancement of the well-being of 1.4 billion Chinese citizens, the pursuit of mutually beneficial cooperation, economic globalization, and inclusive multilateralism.

Key Chinese officials present at the ceremony included Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Ms. Hua Chunying (Spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and senior officials from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Hashmi, a seasoned diplomat with nearly thirty years of experience in the Foreign Service of Pakistan, has held various key positions in both bilateral and multilateral capacities. Prior to his current role, he served as the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations in Geneva. His earlier assignment included being a Counsellor at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing from 2008 to 2010.

Having arrived in Beijing in November 2023, Ambassador Hashmi has already commenced his official duties in his current assignment. The presentation of credentials formalizes his position as Pakistan’s Ambassador to China.
