ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan said on Friday that Islamabad would examine the latest developments and make a determination regarding its future engagement with BRICS group, Radio Pakistan reported.

According to state-run Radio, Pakistan’s foreign office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that Pakistan has not made any formal request to the group.  She expressed these remarks while responding to the questions of media persons in Islamabad on Friday regarding the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The spokesperson added that Pakistan is a passionate supporter of multilaterism and as a member of many multilateral organizations, Islamabad has always played a key role for international peace and progress. She added Islamabad shall continue its efforts for fostering the spirit of global cooperation.

Responding to another question, she said Islamabad has repeatedly shared its concerns with authorities in Kabul regarding the terrorism threat originating from Afghanistan. She added authorities in Afghanistan should honour their pledges of not allowing their soil for terrorism against other nations including Pakistan.

When asked regarding the recent Indian ceasefire violation on the LoC, she said this is unacceptable, asking New Delhi to desist from such acts and ensure that the ceasefire understanding continues to hold. She asked India to bring an end to its repression of the people of Kashmir so that they are able to exercise their right to self-determination as per the UNSC resolutions.
