ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Algeria on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations and enhance coordination in multilateral fora, including the United Nations, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar received a telephone call from Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, during which the two leaders expressed satisfaction over the “positive trajectory” of bilateral cooperation, the Foreign Office stated in a press release.

“Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan–Algeria relations and enhancing coordination in multilateral fora, including the UN,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a statement.

The discussion underscored the depth of longstanding ties between the South Asian and North African countries and their mutual keenness to consolidate cooperation across various fields and on issues of common interest.

Pakistan and Algeria share friendly relations rooted in historical solidarity and mutual support in international platforms such as the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

The two countries have established institutional mechanisms for cooperation, including a Joint Economic Commission and Bilateral Political Consultations, and are seeking to expand collaboration in trade, culture, and energy.

Pakistan was among the earliest supporters of Algeria’s independence, recognising its provisional government in 1958. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were formally established in 1963.
