KARACHI: A special flight carrying seventy Pakistani citizens, evacuated from Lebanon, arrived in Karachi on Wednesday’s morning.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said that the Pakistani citizens were repatriated from Lebanon who travelled to Damascus, Syria by road before being airlifted to Pakistan. Four Pakistani nationals from Syria are also among them.

According to media reports, they were welcomed at the airport by Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and provincial minister Ikramullah Dharejo.

Radio Pakistan reported that their security, transport and food arrangements were made by the Pakistan Embassies in Lebanon and Syria in order to ensure smooth evacuation through Lebanon.

Southern Beirut has been heavily targeted by Israeli attacks amid the current military offensives, raising safety concerns for foreign citizens, including Pakistanis.

The evacuation of Pakistani citizens is part of the government’s current efforts to repatriate nationals as tensions escalate in the region. Earlier, Pakistan Foreign Office said that it had established a Crisis Management Unit (CMU) in order to facilitate Pakistani citizens in Lebanon.
