ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) observed the seventh anniversary of Operation Swift Retort at Air Headquarters on Friday, highlighting a landmark display of strategic resolve, operational professionalism, and precision in modern air combat.

Speaking at the ceremony, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, emphasized that Pakistan remains a responsible nation committed to peace with honour, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

He recalled that seven years ago, an aggressor underestimated Pakistan’s capabilities and challenged its sovereignty under the cover of darkness.

The PAF’s measured response during daylight not only reasserted national deterrence but also sent a clear message of Pakistan’s readiness to defend itself.

The Air Chief noted that in the current complex regional and global security environment, the PAF has been modernizing and indigenizing its capabilities despite budgetary limitations.

Since March 2021, the force has updated its operational doctrine and added advanced combat and support systems, including home-grown unmanned systems, electronic warfare, space, and cyber assets, creating a unique multi-domain kill chain.

Referring to Marka-e-Haq in May 2025, he said the PAF executed its first full-spectrum, multi-domain operations with precision, neutralizing high-value targets deep inside hostile territory, including advanced fighter jets and air defence systems, while downing unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Air Chief reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, maintaining credible deterrence, and keeping the Air Force ready, vigilant, and professional.

Operation Swift Retort, launched on February 27, 2019, was Pakistan’s aerial response to Indian strikes inside its territory.

During the operation, the PAF carried out precision attacks along the Line of Control, shot down two Indian aircraft, and captured an Indian pilot, who was later released as a gesture of de-escalation.

Military leadership described the operation as decisive, restoring strategic balance and reinforcing Pakistan’s defensive posture.
