KARACHI: Pakistan’s largest pharmaceutical gathering, the 23rd Pharma Asia International Exhibition and Conference, opened on Tuesday at the Karachi Expo Centre with an ambitious target in focus, raising the country’s pharmaceutical exports to $10 billion by 2030.

The event was formally inaugurated by senior officials of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA), foreign delegates, and Director General of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Azhar Ali Dahar, alongside other distinguished industry figures.

According to organizers, more than 8,000 pharmaceutical professionals attended on the first day alone. The exhibition hosts 750 stalls, featuring over 200 international delegates from 10 countries, with China showcasing the largest international pavilion—one of the event’s major attractions.

Organized by E-Commerce Gateway Pakistan, in collaboration with the PPMA and with strategic support from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), Pharma Asia 2025 is being hailed as the country’s biggest platform for collaboration, networking, and technology exchange within the life sciences sector. The three-day event runs from December 2–4, 2025.

Exports Surge and Policy Reforms Drive Optimism

Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry recorded a 34 percent increase in exports compared to last year, according to organizers. In September, the PPMA reported that exports had grown by 35 percent, reaching nearly $500 million, as the sector expanded its footprint and explored new markets, including Afghanistan.

With Pakistan producing around 90 percent of its medicines domestically, industry leaders said policy reforms—particularly improvements in drug pricing and SIFC-led measures such as price deregulation—were creating a more enabling environment for investment and scaling production to global standards.

Focus on Technology, Digitization, and Innovation

A major theme of this year’s exhibition is the integration of modern technology and digitalization in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector. Exhibitors are showcasing advanced pharmaceutical machinery, raw materials, laboratory equipment, and modern packaging solutions aimed at meeting international regulatory and quality benchmarks.

Pharma Asia’s official platform describes the event as offering an “unparalleled platform” for industry professionals, innovators, and leaders to display cutting-edge technologies while participating in expert-led sessions, networking forums, and discussions on global industry trends.

Industry Foundation Strengthens Amid Global Partnerships

The opening day concluded with a strong emphasis on innovation, cross-border collaboration, and technology-driven growth, as stakeholders expressed confidence that Pakistan’s pharma sector is positioned for major expansion in the coming years.

With international participation rising and reforms taking shape, Pharma Asia 2025 is expected to play a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s pharmaceutical foundation and pushing the sector closer to its $10 billion export milestone by 2030.
