Pakistan, Afghanistan Pledge to Maintain High-Level Contacts, Promote Bilateral Ties

KABUL, Afghanistan: Pakistan and Afghanistan have reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and agreed to maintain high-level contacts to promote bilateral relations, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as trade, security, and regional connectivity.

The resolve was expressed during a meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Acting Afghan Prime Minister, Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund, in Kabul, a Foreign Office statement said on Thursday.

During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including peace and security, trade and transit cooperation, and regional connectivity.

Recalling their earlier meeting on 19 April 2025, they reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and agreed to maintain high-level contacts to promote bilateral relations.

Ishaq Dar was in Kabul for the signing ceremony for the Framework Agreement on Joint Feasibility Study of the UAP Railway Corridor.

Meeting between two foreign Ministers

Ishaq Dar also held a meeting with the Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

The two sides called for strengthened efforts to maintain the momentum in bilateral relations and to expand cooperation in trade, transit, and security domains to the mutual benefit of both peoples.

They agreed to remain engaged to achieve the full potential of regional economic development, including through the realisation of trans-regional connectivity projects.

Dar meets Acting Afghan Interior Minister

Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, during the visit to Kabul, met with Acting Interior Minister of Afghanistan Sirajuddin Haqqani.

Both sides held in-depth discussions on security matters and reaffirmed the importance of eradicating the threats to regional countries.

Ishaq Dar underlined the importance of addressing all issues of concern, in particular security and border management, to harness the full potential of economic cooperation and regional connectivity.


Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reached Kabul, where he was welcomed by the Afghan deputy foreign minister. Pakistan’s ambassador Abur Rehman Nizamani was also present on the occasion.
