ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Afghanistan’s Interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Saturday affirmed their commitment to continue working together in order to strengthen fraternal bilateral relations.
“Enhancing collaboration in areas such as connectivity, trade, security, counter-terrorism, and people-to-people contacts remains a top priority for Pakistan,” Pakistan’s foreign minister posted on X, following a congratulatory call from his Afghan counterpart.
A statement released on X by Hafiz Zia Ahmad, the deputy spokesperson at the Afghan foreign ministry, expressed Foreign Minister Muttaqi’s optimism regarding Ishaq Dar’s assumption of office and said it will have a “positive and constructive role in strengthening the relations” between the neighboring countries.
FM Muttaqi highlighted the region’s increasing positive interactions and the initiation of significant infrastructure projects, expressing Afghanistan’s readiness to actively participate in Pakistan’s regional initiatives.
Moreover, Muttaqi invited Dar to visit Afghanistan.
Former finance minister Ishaq Dar recently assumed the role of Pakistan’s foreign minister amidst growing economic and security challenges that are expected to shape the nation’s foreign policy agenda.
Dar, 73, is a chartered accountant and seasoned politician from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, which leads the ruling coalition.
