ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that Pakistan stands as an ‘iron wall’ in the fight against terrorism.

He said this during a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Saturday. He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation with the UK, state media reported.

Both sides discussed Pakistan-UK relations, focusing on bilateral cooperation and development partnerships.

Naqvi expressed appreciation to the British government for its support through the Upskill Programme, acknowledging its pivotal role in addressing organised crime.

He noted that the programme is strengthening collaboration between the two countries in key areas, including illegal immigration, online child exploitation, mutual legal assistance and extradition, the exchange of criminal records, sex offender management, illicit financial flows, and drug control.

He revealed that, in collaboration with the UK’s National Crime Agency, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized 4.3 tons of opium worth £22 million.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy thanked Pakistan for its support in facilitating the relocation of Afghan refugees to the United Kingdom. He also expressed satisfaction with the continued success of the Upskill Programme.

The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, the Federal Interior Secretary, the Director General of the FIA, and senior officials from the United Kingdom.
