The visitors, who earlier resumed their first innings at an overnight score of 440-6, now seem to have the upper hand in the first Test of the two-match series, with a lead of 81 runs over the home-team’s first innings score of 438 runs.
Williamson, Sodhi helped visitors to defy Pak bowling attack
Williamson increased his overnight score of 105 to 137, with Sodhi batting on 41, negating Pakistan’s early wicket-taking attempts.
With the total at 493-6, Pakistan took the third new ball, but neither the fast bowlers nor the spin pair of Nauman Ali and Abrar Ahmed were able to end the partnership, which had already produced 78 runs.
New Zealand is currently playing its first Test series in Pakistan in 20 years.
