KARACHI: New Zealand batted at 353 for 4 at tea time on the third day of their first Test against Pakistan in Karachi.
With a first-innings advantage in sight, Kane Williamson stood strong on 66, with the Kiwis only 85 runs behind Pakistan’s 438-run total of the first innings. The tourists resumed their innings at 165/0 on Wednesday as Pakistani spinners claimed two more wickets.
Pak vs NZ: Latham’s 13th Test Century
The home team’s bowlers earned crucial breakthroughs in the first session as they removed the opening pair of Tom Latham and Devon Conway after not picking up a wicket on day two.
In a bid to keep the Kiwis in control, Latham reached his 13th Test century and added 35 runs to his overnight total of 78. However, his opening partner, Conway fell eight runs short of reaching his century.
Earlier, the match referee stopped Mohammad Rizwan from leading the team who came on the field to replace skipper Babar Azam, who was absent today amid flu.
After the intervention of the match referee and umpires, the team management of Pakistan stopped Rizwan from captaincy. Subsequently, Sarfraz Ahmed assumed the duties of the team captain.
