LAHORE: Pakistan’s right-arm off-break spinner, Abrar Ahmed, is likely to replace the injured vice-captain, Shadab Khan, in the crucial national team match against New Zealand in the Cricket World Cup.
The national team’s director, Mickey Arthur, stated on Friday that all-rounder Shadab Khan remains uncertain for their World Cup game against New Zealand due to a concussion.
According to media reports citing official sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), there are strong indications that Abrar Ahmed will be included in the national squad for the crucial fixture against New Zealand to be held on Saturday in Ahmedabad. Shadab Khan suffered a concussion during a World Cup match against South Africa.
Shadab Khan’s Latest Condition
Earlier today, Mickey Arthur provided the latest update on Shadab’s condition to reporters, saying Shadab had undergone a preliminary medical evaluation, which is standard protocol in such cases.
Arthur stated, ‘He passed that initial test, but we are being cautious and refraining from making a decision just yet. Concussions are serious injuries, and we need to ensure complete certainty before making any determinations.’
With Pakistan currently in the fifth position in the standings, trailing behind New Zealand, they are now aiming for a late surge to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
Arthur emphasized the significance of the upcoming matches against the Black Caps and the defending champions, England, next week, highlighting them as pivotal must-win contests.
