ISLAMABAD: The cooperation and exchanges in the field of education between Pakistan and China are playing an important role in promoting the high-quality development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Safdar Ali Shah, Director General CPEC Cell at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) said on Thursday.
In an interview with Xinhua, the DG said that CPEC is the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) which is a framework for multinational economic development. It is providing opportunities that will bring socio-economic stability around the world, including Pakistan.
CPEC enters advanced stage
He said that as CPEC was entering an advanced stage, the cooperation and exchanges between Pakistan and China in higher education have reached to new levels over the past years.
The scholar said that Pakistan needed to produce young talents that fulfill the requirements of Chinese companies who want to invest in the country and are desperate for skilled workers acquainted with local languages and conditions. Therefore, it was necessary to increase bilateral cooperation for proving strong talent and intellectual support to Chinese firms.
He added that in 2017, eighteen universities in China and Pakistan established the CPEC Consortium of Universities to promote academic exchanges for the high-standard development of CPEC.
Now, the number of such universities has increased to over 110, indicating a substantial rise in educational and academic exchanges over the years.
