Painter Abdul Rahman Chughtai Death Anniversary Today

ISLAMABAD: The 49th death anniversary of the globally-renowned painter Abdul Rahman Chughtai is being observed today (Wednesday).

He is also known as ‘Musawwir-e-Mashriq’.

Renowned for his distinctive painting style, influenced by Mughal Art, Miniature Painting, and Islamic Art Traditions, Chughtai is credited as the founder of ‘Chughtai Art’ in the realm of painting.

Chughtai’s artistic legacy extends beyond canvas, as he played a pivotal role in designing one of Pakistan’s inaugural postage stamps and crafting the enduring monograms for Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television. These creations stand as enduring monuments to his artistic prowess.

In addition to his contributions to the visual arts, Abdul Rahman Chughtai showcased his literary talent as a fiction writer. His collections, ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Kajal’, have been published, showcasing his proficiency in storytelling.

Recognizing his outstanding contributions, Chughtai was honoured with the Hilal-i-Imtiaz award in 1960. He departed from this world on January 17, 1975, finding his final resting place in Lahore.  —APP
